Steven Hinder is the sole owner operator of Hidden Gardens. With a passion for gardening since an early age, Steven didn't start in the Landscaping Industry, but travelled and worked extensively throughout Australia and later the World. He discovered (North American, Asia, Europe) a myriad of countries, landscapes and cultures, which influence his work to date. He began his landscaping career in 2001 at the Ryde Horticultural College in Sydney, earning a Diploma of Horticulture in Landscape Design with distinction.
During this time, Steven worked as the head gardener for a well known and awarded Landscape Company, Spirit Level Designs (spiritlevel.com.au). With a vast and valuable knowledge of harmonious material selection and garden composition he then founded his own company, Blade Landscape Design. He designed and created gardens throughout Sydney until 2009. During this time Steven was strongly influenced by the Asian design style and use of tropical planting schemes in his works, focusing on using natural colour palate in building materials and combining it with coloured foliage plants to add texture and interest in the gardens all throughout the year. Thereby not just relying on flower colour to provide interest in his gardens.
A decision to move to Berlin Germany in 2009 began a new direction in Steven's garden career. Steven worked for a well-known Berlin garden company Blumen und Garten Kunst in 2010, which allowed him to gain insight into the German gardening culture. In 2011 he started as sole owner operator of Hidden Gardens, and now with a focus on using ornamental grasses and flowering perennials to provide year round interest in his gardens. He work is strongly influenced by plants man and designer Piet Oudolf from the Netherlands. Steven now offers his knowledge and talent to Berlin as he creates beautifully unique and sustainable gardens.
